Morels are a rare rare rare favorite food of mine. They are sooo amazingly yummy. I wish they were available more often. I'm a big mushroom fan to begin with....but morels, well they are just special. I was gifted a few of these precious gems today and knew that they HAD to be my supper. Mmmmmmmm
I thought that I would show you how I fixed them, just in case you ever are lucky enough to be gifted with morels too!!
Gluten Free Fried Morel Mushrooms
Cleaned Morel Mushrooms
Bob's Red Mill All Purpose Gluten Free Flour
Milk
Cooking Oil
Start with clean morels that are cut lengthwise into halves. Pour a bowl of milk and soak the morels in the milk for a few minutes. In a plastic baggie dump in 1/4-1/2 c gf flour. One at a time toss the morels into the bag and coat in the flour.
Pour some cooking oil into your skillet....I use enough to fill the bottom of the skillet but not submerge the mushrooms completely. Heat the oil. When the oil is hot, carefully add the coated mushrooms. Fry until golden brown and then flip and brown the other side. When both sides are golden, remove from the pan and drain on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve hot.
Be sure to soak and wash the mushrooms well.
Cut them lengthwise in half
Soak for a few minutes in a bowl of milk
Pour a little gluten free flour into a plastic bag.
Toss the morels in the flour to coat them.
Remove from the bag and place into the hot oil
Fry until golden brown.
Then flip and fry the other side until golden.
Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve piping hot.
So if you are ever lucky enough to get your hands on some morel mushrooms you will know just how to cook them. Smile at the nice person who gave them to you and hug them. Yes, I said hug them.....morels are a super great gift!!! That person deserves a hug. Enjoy!!
